“Youth participation is crucial to the success of the program, but U.S. government data released in February showed the segment of adults aged 18-34 rose only slightly by the end of January to 25 percent of total enrollment in private Obamacare plans.”

If you are 18-26 they are letting you jump on your parents plans. So that only leaves 27-34 to get those numbers they need. I don’t understand the 18-34 segment, unless they are talking about those who don’t have a parent to free load off of.

Timbuk3, In California only about a third of those that signed up have paid the premium for the 1st month. I think people are making financial decisions that are not as philosophical as you make it out to be. They have to decide whether to pay the rent or the Obamacare payment. It’s that simple. Which would you choose? Personally, Id go the route of paying $95 or 1% of AGI then go to the ER or a free clinic when I need care. They can’t refuse me.

Well the problem here is you are being forced to pay high prices for insurance due to the insurance pools not being set up correctly. In auto insurance you have companies that deal only with high risk customer’s and companies that only deal with low risk customer’s. You don’t have this in health insurance outside of group plans. It is like taking all of the drivers with 3 dui’s and putting them in the same insurance pool as people with 0 moving violations over the last 15 years. I swear, people don’t seem to understand even the most basic and fundamental principles of “insurance” and “shared risk” that benefit all of us.

Dear jabberwolf,
The young voters are one of the groups who stupidly voted Obama into power and are now paying the price with the rest of the country. Too bad your stupidity caught up with you!

Obama is destroying the US and is the biggest threat to national security. Stop smoking the now legal marijuana and restore your brain before the next election, if there is one.

@Timbuk3 you’re so right, this is exactly like an oily car insurance salesperson trying to sell a young person on signing up for something much more expensive than he wants or needs.

GuileWilliams because its like Social Security started out, but was meant to help those lived PAST the average life expectancy and not as a retirement fund. Old people were supposed to be responsible to what age they expected to live to. But less and less people want to pay for more and more people that do not want to. Thats what generally happens with a socialist system – it runs out of other people’s money to spend.

Also @Timbuk3 false analogy that onyl simpletons fall for. You are not forced to drive and many dont that live in cities. But paying for something that you do not need simply because you are breathing, is not a fair trade of services for risk.
If you fell for that very poor analogy, than you probably voted for Obama… and probably failed economics.

BTW- medicare/medicaid… who do you think pays for that?

Sure President Obama wants people to sign up but what he is not saying is how much more it will cost. There are two price categories with the poor and low income not paying hardly anything while those making 50K and beyond paying big time for horrible coverage. How about $560 a month with no chance of co-pays and a $6000 deductible! If you think that is not true, then you haven’t signed up or your one of the under four times poverty group. Obama created the “Affordable Care Act” to assure his election, re-election and to change America right down to the very fabric it was created from. Every large city already had a county health system. Vice President Biden told the Press that they have created a way for the working mom to quit her job and get health care and other government benefits so she can stay home with her kids! Can you believe it? Our own VP and President are encouraging people not to work. Two more years of this? The wrong message and the wrong people in office!

However, even though this President is pathetic. I hope all the young fool’s who voted for this incompetent man sign up for Obama care. That should ensure that my wife and I receive our medical care at low cost for the rest of our lives. Thanks again.

Clearly the conservatives posting here are clueless about insurance. Young people benefit whether getting free or low cost coverage while unemployed, in college or working for min. wage. Young people will get older too, many with a pre-existing condition needing the help they subsidize now. 2 government programs already do this in social security and medicare, far more paid in by under 65 than people receiving benefits paid in. Deductibles have actually gone down, got capped for all plans at $6450. For the healthy bronze plans cheaper cost difference covers the higher deductible. Many sick people would quit their having better health overall getting coverage they could not get before ACA. Insurers appear to be doing alright financially with their stock prices beating the rest of the market.

Not our Republican (and lunatic fringe?)friends, who appear to only represent old people, corporate America, and themselves through influence peddling and after they pass through the revolving door, lobbyist fees.

The idea of representing all Americans has become kind of “quaint.”

No, it is fascist. You are being forced to be a customer of a private enterprise just because you are alive. Only in the demented mind of rank in file Democrats do they think it is a good thing to force all Americans to be customers of the very same companies they demonize for being evil. Tell me how much you love health insurance companies again, and how forcing 30 million more Americans to be the customers of these health for profit companies is a great liberal dream again.
