Scientists say destructive solar blasts narrowly missed Earth in 2012

Reported? Actually, the largest solar magnetic storm ever “reported” was the one that occurred during early Bronze Age time over a long period of time the visual effects of which (Peratt plasma instabilities, Rayleigh–Taylor instabilities, and auroral Birkelund currents) were engraved in stone by the millions all over the world as well as memorialized in very large stone structures. The intensity of the zeta pinch aurora necessary to produce the types of observed phenomena as recorded in the petroglyphs was on the giga-ampere level compared to the mega-ampere level of the Carrington Event.

There is always something bigger to to come. This was simply a shot over the bow from the sun. If the ‘civilized’ world cares then something needs to be done…other wise build stone circles where the most intense effects were witnessed in the Earth in the time of the Culture of Great Cities (that most assuredly shall fall). So that is what happened just before the Great Flood!

@sabrefencer, nothing secret about this, I read the abstract of paper as soon as it came out a few weeks ago. Just because you are not informed about matters of science does not make it a ‘secret’, it just means you are not seeking out knowledge.

And the rest of you talking about ‘global warming’ or ‘carbon emissions’ are really just laughable.

It is good that we can now detect these superstorms and possibly give us a day or two warning. One thing this article does not mention is this ‘SuperStorm’ was actually a combination of 3 CME’s that, because of the dynamics of the magnetic field, the last 2 catch up to the first one, thus combining the energy of all 3.

We are only hearing about it now because the Leftists “long march through the institutions” has taken over the hard sciences as well. Thus, ALL scientific research is devoted to advancing the socialist agenda (e.g. Global Warming, social justice, feminism, etc.) So, something like a massive solar flare hitting the planet and reeking worldwide havoc would only be of value to look into or report if it would clearly advance the cause of worldwide socialism/Marxism. And two years on, they may have finally determined it would–thus, the report.

By saying that it narrowly missed is by implication saying we were extremely lucky it missed?

What are the odds of being hit, by a significantly damage causing solar expulsion? How large or wide and tall are these solar explosion’s and how much of a target is our extremely small planet in relation to the sun. I mean how well aimed does one of these explosion’s need to be to hit the earth?

At this point I believe the likely hood needs to measured and mentioned before flying off the handle in an attempt to cause a public panic over this issue.

And we propose the deflect asteroids so they won’t cause catastrophic destruction of Earth from millions of miles away? In all likelihood, the dummies could just as well ensure a direct strike when they intended a glancing blow or near-miss. It would be like electing Obama all over again.

@Chris_colon – the Messiah will have to stay in office for about the next 100 years so he can heal the planetary magnetic field that, according to a National Geographics article (just search collapse of magnetic field), has weakened by 10% during the last century. I know you’re kidding.

According to theory, it is due to flip but not before about 1000 years of instability and the appearance of multiple weakened “poles”. During that time of weakened poles, the magnetic field won’t be able to resist solar winds and there will also be many more asteroid hits.
It will be the extinction of PCs, so back to movable type for humanity.

In a thousand years, north will be south as it was about 250,000 years ago. That’s the theory anyway. We probably won’t be around to see anything but the faint beginning and what ever survives might be living in caves without wifi. They may all have a variety of cancers,
a very short life span and be prone to early blindness.

The Messiah should set to work right now, however, to resurrect 90% of the oceans former species due to over fishing and deep ocean trawling. But that is now. 9/10ths of ocean life is extinct now. If they have any sense, our descendants may just call it quits and join the rest of the extinct species right at the start. The oceans are turning in garbage cans now. Human beings are always hard on their digs.

The summer could well be as hot and wet and the winter was cold and relatively dry. Last summer was very wet in the NE while other places were exceptionally dry. It’s all extreme weather now.

I haven’t tried to look up an explanation for this winter, and it took me thirty years to finally accept global warming. My head’s on a very slow swivel but that still causes neck strain.

@carolsue1ok – that wasn’t as much fun as the one where the earth broke up due to something similar to the polar shift,(not exciting enough for a movie) as the earth’s core heated up and broke the plates apart and drowned all life on earth. I think that one was called “2012″.

These dire “narrow escapes” are never reported for a week or a month or a year AFTER the fact because WE CAN’T DO ANYTHING to prevent these perfectly natural occurrences nor protect our frail technological infrastructure from them. So the scientific community joins the central government in simply REFUSING TO MENTION such events.

Apparently the Mayan Calender came close to being right! If the Solar Flare had hit the Earth and caused a World-Wide EMP, electrical grids would have gone down along with modern technology devices and systems. Your cellphone would be dead, the internet would be dead, and you would have lost means to communicate at least for a few minutes to a long, long time. Could you survive without cellphones or the internet?

Now on a direr side, such a pulse would be dangerous to human life because of such items loss of the electrical grid or by the EMF Pulse, itself, as in medical devices such as in breathing machines, or embedded Pace Makers.

Yep we escaped this time but maybe not the next one. Additionally, it might not be from Sol, but from a nearby Nova!
