well since they have rounded up and are executing anyone who might run against this military puppet, it ought to make for an interesting election.

Democracy simply does not work in the Arab world. They only understand and respect force. It’s in their culture. The Arab world can only be ruled by a strong man dictator. From their Islamic religion that requires absolute devotion without question, to their tribal history of being bullied by a tribal leader, to their cultural fanaticism of “honor killings” of even their own sisters, force and power is deeply rooted into their culture. The whole “Arab Spring” thing is a joke. The term is actually an oxymoron of sorts, where the two words “Arab” and “Spring” (as in “Democracy”) simply don’t fit together in one term.

@XianSheng – I really do not think you know Arab History, culture, tradition etc. You criticize a whole nation and a great religion without knowing much about either. As for religions, Islam is like all Abrahamic religions. So read about the subject matter fully before stating negative facts about them here please.

Easy to win an election when you murder, then imprison and sentence to death all of the opposition. This augurs badly for Egypt, they’re just going to go through the process of overthrowing yet another military-controlled government. A huge step backwards, unfortunate.

From this article: “Commenting on Sisi’s candidacy, the United States, a major source of military aid to Egypt, said it did not support individual candidates or parties in Egyptian elections.” (end quote)

That’s a bold-faced LIE. The US will support those Egyptian parties and candidates that will continue to honor the Camp David Accords. Protecting the Jewish state from Egypt and its other neighbors is America’s primary goal in that region. If Sisi leaves Israel alone, he can do whatever he wants to his own people.

Defense, Israel & Energy dictate US policy in the Middle East; the DIE trio of death generously supports every member of the US Congress with mega-campaign contributions. Even the US President is beholden to the Defense, Israel & Energy lobbies.

Never mind the highfalutin statements from US State Department Spokeswomen; money talks louder than words… General Sisi is our man.

Ah, so now Egypt has gotten themselves a 2014 version of Saddam Hussein. There weren’t any Al-Qaeda in Iraq when Saddam was around. Seems that Al-Qaeda and the other radical Islamic terrorist groups congregate and propagate in countries that have been destabilized by western actions.
So Sissi will be president for a couple decades until the west tires of him too. /yawn It’s really getting boring watching these remakes over, and over, and over again.

General Sisi will be another Mubarak; so long as he keeps his hands off of the Jewish state in Palestine he will routinely get away with murder and still receive a billion and a half from the US Treasury annually… as an entitlement. Still, some delusional Americans wonder why we are so hated across the globe.
