This is a good move. Methane (CH4) has an atomic weight of 16; oxygen (O2) is 32; nitrogen (N2) is 28; and carbon dioxide (CO2) is 44. As a lighter gas, methane rises to the top of the atmosphere and reacts violently with ozone (O3), an unstable form of oxygen caused by solar energy fusing a third oxygen atom to the normal form (O2). Ozone is light blue in color, and it reflects solar heat and light to reduce solar radiation to safer levels for most of life on earth, but it should stay in the upper atmosphere to avoid violent reactions in human and animal lungs that could cause death. Ozone is created in human engines and causes “ozone alert days” in cities.

The equation is 3 CH4 + 4 O3 = 3 CO2 + 6 H2O. Three molecules of methane destroy four molecules of ozone and create 3 molecules of carbon dioxide and 6 molecules of water “in the upper atmosphere” where they act like blankets to trap heat inside earth’s atmosphere and let in more solar heat and light. The sun becomes brighter and hotter, and more heat is trapped inside its “blankets” to keep hotter nights. We have not had large holes in the ozone layer over populated areas, but the results will likely be more blindness with needs for stronger sunglasses and higher cancer rates for unshielded people who work in the sunlight.

The economic reasons for capturing as much natural gas as possible is that it adds more fuel for humans, and the production of CO2 and H2O “near earth’s surface” feed crops and other plants that use CO2 and H2O in their green chlorophyll to make food and oxygen. The USA needs more fuel and food to cut costs for the USA, to earn more money for the USA, and to cut the USA’s trade deficit.

China builds a continental irrigation system that should be complete by 2020, and global warming melts Siberian tundra for more food production in addition to more oil, gas, minerals and industry. At the moment, the US, Mexico, Africa, the Middle East, India, and Australia are becoming polluted deserts. By 2025, the Communist Party of the People’s Republic of China and the FSR (KGB) in Russia will dominate the world’s food supply and influence all countries that want to eat. The USA may want to do something about that before it happens. If not, the USA can beg Russia and China for food. The USA had slavery in the past; now, every American can learn how to be a slave.

Obama if finally doing all he can. Make sure your rep in Congress understands that aggressive action is needed to reduce global emissions. Too many members are blocking progress and catering to the fossil fuel interests.

Please join the efforts. Apathy/inaction effectively advocates more of the same destructive behaviors.

It’s all good. We can reduce our production of greenhouse gases by importing the natural gas from Russia and the Crimea.

This notion of trying to figure out what limits to impose on pollution is like trying to decide how much stealing a person is allowed to do before punishing them. The free market approach that I’d suggest would be to simply make every producer pay 100% of the cost of cleaning their pollution out of the air, water, and land. Then we don’t have to guess if coal or gas or hydrogen or whatever is more or less polluting or more or less expensive. You make producers pay 100% of the costs of production and the market will migrate to the solution that costs the least in environmental damage. There will be a financial incentive to cut all pollution as much as possible.

They are happening NOW, and have been for some time. Look UP! Sky getting more hazy as each plane passes by, spreading pollution particles in the air. Obama knows its not from cars and factories…much larger agenda at play here.

Obama is really setting out to cripple the economy. We need fewer regulations, not more.

In addition, all the Global Warming stuff is just a bunch of junk science. It is all about the money. We need to impeach this nut before he can do any more damage.

Something. Anything. To distract from the domestic and the foreign policy disasters. I’m betting this has been or will be an impassioned speech with bleachers filled with “methane gas sufferers” in back of the President, carefully coached to only move on certain cues.

Or we could talk about that evil Republican Chris Christie who committed the cardinal crime of [cover the kid's ears] moving traffic cones on 2 lanes out of 50 for four mornings causing congestion on a congested bridge.

Yeah, let’s throw another brick at industry that creates jobs — I guess the theory is that if you call business a villain often enough they will either hire folks just to make themselves look good or give up and leave the company to Washington to manage.
