I just put together a cheap ‘Media PC’ – it does all these boxes can and a whole lot more. Didn’t cost much more either.

It’s certainly cheaper than cable and I’m not limited to just a few services, I can watch video on any site or from local files on the PC. There is no limit to the ‘ecosystem’ that a regular PC hooked to a TV can use.

The voice command feature sounds nice, but I wonder how comprehensive and intuitive it is and if TV audio can cause “falsing”, as it does when I have dictation turned on.

The clumsy input interface on Apple TV and Roku is abominable, but on the Apple TV at least this is easily fixed with a very inexpensive Bluetooth keyboard. It’s handy and small, and I park it between the cushions of my couch.

Im with you Overcast. I keep an HDMI hooked to teh tv and use my laptop for all the media I need or want. These boxes are all marketing hype and little real advantage, kind of the way I see tablets.
