Do you honestly think Obama has any understanding or real say why to keep troops in Afghanistan? It’s simple an executive order and his script says to make that call.

On the other hand, some of us are outraged that Obama is pulling the troops out of Afghanistan, including Lindsey Graham. We want them to stay there until Afghnistan is peaceful and stable, which will be never.

That kind of disagreement won’t do. It’s held together only by a hatred of everything Obama says, does, or plans.

The only sensible thing to do is to wait until Rush and Fox News sort it out for us and explain why we are outraged.

Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and India have observer status in the SCO, so the country and almost all of its neighbors will work on the effort in some capacity. However, the decision to remain two more years lets the US and NATO spend billions of dollars and euros that they don’t have, so they can increase their national debts by the end of 2016. Russia has $493 billion in foreign currency reserves, and China has $3,726 billion, so they can increase their wealth while the US and NATO dig deeper economic holes for themselves.

There are military bases all over Afghanistan. Piles of equipment. Supplies. We can all see that the Republican geniuses think that these should be just left behind for anybody to use, but luckily Obama is not that that stupid. He has enough sense to leave a few thousand in Afghanistan to look after all that military hardware until it can be removed properly.

As Barack Obama revisits American foreign policy, his presidency has ensured there will never be another such incumbent within our lifetime

On January 20th, 2009, the world rejoiced at the election of an American President from an ethnic minority; a lawyer who by the power of his oratory combined with an inspiring vision for the future and the successful utilization of modern technology, won a resounding victory in his election to the White House. Millions around the world, black, brown and white, cried in jubilation at the promise of a new world order directed by an American President who would be cognisant, proactive and sympathetic to the plight of those forced to live under the threat of violence of terrorism and oppressive regimes in addition to those who lack food, water and medical attention.

Now five years on, we now live instead in a world under increasing threat of global war as weapons of mass destruction, both nuclear and chemical, have proliferated under the watch of this US administration, particularly in the Middle East. The balance of power has shifted from Europe to the Eastern Mediterranean and beyond, in an incredible abdication of statesmanship and political and military responsibility.

Contemporaneously, Washington has ensured that the United Nations has been turned into a creature organisation of the US Congress, one that is routinely prevented from carrying out its vital role as the global representative body by the consistently irresponsible use of the US veto in the Security Council.

The international community never imagined that there could have been a more inept US Presidency than that of George W Bush. We were all wrong.

May 27, 2014 12:32am EDT  --  Report as abuse

. . .”security forces who are trained to take the lead and ultimately full responsibility,” says Obama. What the heck does that mean — an American-trained Afghan military machine will be the govern rather than allowing a Islamic-style democratically elected government that understands the region’s culture and traditions which are significantly different than those found in Western nations?
Obama and the American political system and its military are tyrants afraid of democracy — and don’t think Afghans have the same ability to freely rule themselves as did the mostly illiterate American peasants of the 1770s who helped set up a White and Christian and slavery-loving nation where only property owners were allowed to vote after they defeated the British Empire in battle.
It seems Obama and the US Congress believe Muslims are stupid people and unable to govern themselves unless it is a US-sponsored military dictatorship and/or Persian Gulf-like monarchy.

( “We have to recognize that Afghanistan will not be a perfect place, and it is not America’s responsibility to make it one,” Obama said ).

-Because, neither the US nor any other country has ever made a perfect anything. And the Taliban was actually seen as a last gasp of civil rule after the Russians left. And they obviously believe in nothing more than “Home rule”.

(Obama said the lengthy U.S. presence in Afghanistan is proof that “it’s harder to end wars than it is to begin them.”)

Because, as deTocqueville would probably have said: too many people in a democracy make a living on them and can vote their vested interest.

(“We never signed up to be the permanent security force in Afghanistan to fight against the Taliban,” the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told reporters.)

Than maybe the Afghans should be paying you? But if this country suggested that, over night you would be out of there! I really wonder sometime who’s using whom?

@SouthernRican – the system you want is military dictatorship and that would change far more than the conduct of the so-called war on terror. The military in this country is not supposed to occupy a higher position of authority than the President, Congress and the SC.

@aemrogma – there’s nothing “fair” about a flat tax.! It just casts social unfairness in concrete. It will also mean the two tiered economy will become a permanently two tiered society with a much larger mass of just-hanging-ons forever. China would have to shut its doors to a massive influx of people who want to live in a land of freedom and economic opportunity. Wouldn’t that be ironic?
