Even the Jews during the Nazi era rebelled during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The harsh punishment that Israel has exacted will come back to haunt them.

How can you possibly call this a “war”? A war is between two military forces. This is between a powerful military occupational force and mostly civilians. Calling Israel’s butchering of innocent Palestinians a “war” is as obscene as calling the slaughtering of cattle in a slaughterhouse a “sport.”

On this highly serious matter, the government should now consider its position as it is clearly complicit in the commission of a prima facie war crime in violation of the international Geneva Conventions to which Britain is a signatory.

The American-Israel lobby in Washington can control congress to veto a Security Council resolution in the UN but they cannot stop a vote of no confidence in a British government complicit in a humanitarian catastrophe that is a deliberate bloody massacre of innocents including hundreds of women and children.

This is a atrocity that is being condemned worldwide – with the exception only of the two governments that have supplied the arms and munitions, planes and missiles to enable its terrifying implementation against a civilian population.

Everyone knows the Islamists strive for the destruction of the Jews, Israel, Christians, educated women, and all other religions but their own. They live by the code of the feud and will never stop. Hamas and their allies consider the eliminationof the Jewish state their “devine” mission and justify it by “Jihad”, etc..
The only solution is to permanently occupy the Gaza territory and outlaw their extreme religion. The alternative is to bomb them back to the stone age and force them to choose bread over bullets.

Several innocent Palestinians were killed, hundreds arrested without charge, and homes demolished. A Palestinian teen was burned to death and his cousin severely been on camera. Independent militias in Gaza fired rockets at Israel which Hamas tried to stop (as reported in the Times of Israel). Israel attacked parts of Gaza. It’s much more likely you’re going to tell them to put down suppressing fire in the vicinity of attacks. The Israelis are acting in a matter that shows they want the least amount of casualties and are unconcerned about collateral damage. The latter part I have a problem with.
There is also the need to talk about intent. The only reason this argument is as one-sided as it is is because the Israeli missile-defense system is very good. Over 2500 rockets have been launched at Israel, and upwards of 90% of them towards busy civilian-only areas. If the Iron Dome system wasn’t as good as it is you’d be talking about thousands of Israeli casualties. The intent of these rockets is most likely at the forefront of Israeli leaders minds whereas in journalism it is barely reported, because deaths weigh heavier on people’s minds than intent to kill.

Seriously – Israel has reached the point of barbarity they are now getting serious interest from non Middle Eastern citizens to go and even the playing field.

They really do not know how to create a peaceful Israeli state. Their scorn is releasing all their supporters who now see Israel for what it is – A racist fundamentalist state – hell bent on fulfilling some sort of prophecy – even at the expense of all of it’s citizens.

I’m afraid that Hamas refused to accept or recognize any of the previous agreements/treaties that the UN-recognized PLO entered into, including acknowledging Israel as a Jewish state or renouncing violence, like Fatah has. Thus, either they illegally took control of the territory (terrorists) or are a rouge government entity (war criminals). Either way, it is clear to any rational person that they are not interested in entering into an kind of agreement that would result in peace, just as the Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS are the scourge of the rest of the (nominally moderate) “civilized” Arab/Muslim states/theological autocracies.

What is the defensive purpose of tunnels into Israel? What is the defensive purpose of rockets/missiles/mortars into Israel? The Palestinians object to these being removed, but faced the same issues in Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. There was no military fight when Egypt controlled the Gaza Strip or Jordan had the West Bank. If conditions are so severe, Iran should take the Shiite Palestinians and Saudi should take the Sunnies. Lease the supposed no man’s land for fights. The US responds to Mexican border violence with violence. The same with Russia and Ukraine. If a ceasefire cannot be kept, then Hamas needs to be replaced. Each replacement brings additional hardliners. The people in the streets need to stop the violence that their leaders impose.

@justcause – way to go with throwing the entire population of the Muslim world in with your blanket bigotry.

Just so you know; the 170,000 dead in Syria are the result of a brutal and cruel tyrant waging war on his own people. It had very little to do with religion. Until, as happens under extreme oppression, extremism raises its head, and accordingly, with the world doing nothing to stop these cruel injustices, we now have a serious problem with ISIS.

Blaming the majority Sunni population of Syria for the ills bestowed upon them by a selfish dictator, and his after-effects is seriously cruel considering he is the one raining advanced weaponry one their heads, and his forces overwhelmingly target the moderates rather than ISIS.

If you think of the Sunni majority as a whole being to blame however, it means you can disassociate the terrible suffering being endured by these innocents, and instead think of them as a non-human singularity, who deserve it solely because of their religion.

It’s worth bearing in mind that kind of thinking has gotten the human race in trouble before however.

It’s why I advice against doing the same thing against the Palestinians.

Why the “world community” is so worried about the inhabitants of Gaza, and seem to not care at all about inhabitants of Donetsk and Lugansk? Yes, there’s a difference. Israel already agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, and it’s Hamas who doesn’t want even to negotiate any ceasefire before their outlandish demands are met. In Ukraine, it’s the rebels who want an unconditional ceasefire, and it’s Ukrainian government who insists on meeting their outlandish conditions first.
And another difference. Behind Hamas, there’s Qatar and Iran, with their petrodollars, whereas there’s no deep-pocketed backer behind the South-Eastern Ukraine rebels.

No, it hasn’t. Only amongst those who ignore the behavior of Hamas, in order to justify their vilification of Israel. . . and it was lost amongst those folks ages ago.

Fact is, as Netanyahu so aptly stated: “If Hamas laid down its arms, there would be peace. If Israel laid down its arms, it would cease to exist.”

“Even the Jews during the Nazi era rebelled during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.” – liberatadormg

False equivalency. Those Jews didn’t rocket German cities. They didn’t put out a field manual explaining the value of using their own civilian populace as human shields. Those Jews didn’t elect a leadership organization with a founding charter that included the outright destruction of Germany.

Hamas and palestinian people started this from the creation of Israel (back then it was PLO promising to destroy Israel) — and most recently with 2005 when Gaza was given back to Palestinians, they elected Hamas on promise to destroy Israel – and began launching rockets in 2007. The “blockade” to search for weapons crossing the border but allow commerce and food supplies to be traded through – was enacted in 2009.
Dont be gullible. Remember Palestnians were the ones that strapped bombs onto children to blow them up on buses, markets, and malls. then they celebrated their maytardom afterward.

A Better Future for the Middle East and Everywhere
Battles engaged. For some it is decades; for some it is millennia.
No one is winning the long term. Small, short term victories are hollow victories. Who wins? Who loses? Or, will we and our children all lose? Or will we all win?
We all have that which we value greatly. We all have that on which we differ greatly. What we all value is surviving and thriving now and forever. It is our nature.
We will achieve a better future if and only if we commit to “me and all of us” and to “today, the short term future and the long term future” and to “survive and thrive”.
If we all bring to bear our best values and our best knowledge, we will have the future this and all future generations so desperately want and need.

Miko Peled is an Israeli Jew that’s a former member of one of Israel’s elite Special Forces units. His father, Matti Peled, was a general in the Israeli Army. His grandfather was a signer of Israel’s original declaration of independence. He’s far from a self-Hating Jew or anti-Semite. In a lecture he gave this year in Geneva, Switzerland, he said, “The world recognizes the rights of people to resist. There is a United Nations resolution that says, ‘the struggle of people under colonial and alien domination and racist regimes for the implementation of their right to self determination and independence is legitimate.’
“There is no better characterization of Israel than this. Colonization and alien domination and racist regime almost by its own definition, that’s what Israel is. Where the world recognizes the right of people to resist. Now what’s interesting is, when we talk about the Palestinian context, as we see reflected in the prison population has by and large been unarmed non-violent resistance. The armed portion of the Palestinian resistance has always been the small portion, although it gets all the news.
“But the vast majority of Palestinian resistance over the years, and particularly more so today, has been non-violent, unarmed resistance. Not by chance, but by principle. And yet again, it’s one of these issues that nobody talks about. Thousands and thousands of people sitting in jails. Prisoners… sitting in jails.” It does not make you an anti-Semite or self-hating Jew if you disagree with what Israel is doing, just a person with a good heart, conscience and empathy.
