This was likely because Deutsche Telekom never wanted anything other than a wireless network… AT&T already offered TV and DSL service. Likely Deutsche Telekom also solicited an offer to cable companies (this happened once– VoiceStream/T-Mobile was once approached by Comcast).

Now that AT&T is out of the picture, what T-Mobile needs is an experienced partner who can assist T-Mobile with building a portfolio of services; and compete against Verizon at AT&T.

People buy connection services from telecom operators. Note the plural use of “service”
