United Airlines did NOT convert to a “new” reservation system. Reuters, wake up! That was the #1 cause of all of the problems they’ve had starting in August 2011 when they started merging the reservations systems.

United DID have a new system that was state-of-the-art but it was licensed and not owned outright, vs Continentals’ SHARES system which they owned from the 70s outright. That’s what they kept.

And given they have had several high profile multi-day events caused by using SHARES under the new airline, this is really common knowledge even. Even my mom knew their system was called SHARES.

Poor authoring or poor editing, but someone at Reuters is just sleeping on the job.
