Don’t make it sound as if the US would be a huge export player. After a nice start Obamas national export initiative changed only into another failure during the past years. Also nowadays lower import rates caused by lower incomes are usually an elegant way to sail around the WTO. Export restrictions are a favour for importing countries since many of them try to compensate their negative trade balances with lower imports as long as sanctions wouldn’t hit them vital. Sweet sanctions would be very welcome, although Russia has no debt probs.
