Indonesian coal producers are fouling their own nest and squandering Indonesia’s birthright. They have expanded exports by more than 500% by giving their coal away. It is like the East Texas oil fields in the early 1900′s. Indonesian exporters have by themselves knocked down the market price of seaborne coal by $20.00-$30.00/tonne, and made it difficult for renewable energy to compete.

Thinly capitalized producers compete on the basis of price for sales they would likely obtain anyway. Unless the government takes action, Kalimantan will be left a wasteland with nothing to show for it. Indonesia will have to import coal for its own power plants. And no thermal coal producer in the world is making any money.
