UPDATE 1-US food guidelines should focus on fat, panel says
Get the US government out of my diet.
This is no more than another way to justify paying for more bureaucrats to regulate something.
Hi Yankee,
Bad news – the US government is already all over your diet. For example, all the subsidies for the corn industry have made corn so cheap that corn byproducts such as corn syrup are now found in a large percentage of processed goods. Also, the beef industry buys this cheap corn to feed the cattle, which results in less healthy beef for us as consumers. Additionally, processed foods and fast foods receive so many subsidies that they are usually cheaper than buying healthy ingredients and preparing healthy meals.
A few months ago at SUNY some graduate students studying corporate ethics analized the cost of making mocha at Starbucks and McDonalds and found that McDonalds spends 20% more while selling 15% cheaper. The extra cost came entirely from sweatners. Infact McDonalds uses cheaper coffee beans. Companies like McDonalds know that calorie is addictive and have made it their corporate mission to create obese generation. Most parents nawadays try to limit their children’s calorie intake. Their effort being deliberately frustrated by fastfood restaurants and soda companies. At some point government needs to interfere in a big way and assist parents who want to protect their children.
