US Jan mass layoffs edge up on weak manufacturing

This economy will begin to recover and hiring will begin to take place when it becomes readily apparent that the democrats are going to lose control of both houses of Congress. Only when that happens will optimism in business return.

As long as the Federal government keeps meddling with the free-market system, layoffs will continue. Incompetent politicians, of course, will BLAME it on the free-market system. What the oppressive Federal government needs to do is to withdraw from doing anything that is not plainly specified in the U.S. Constitution. Of course, most politicians don’t even know what that is.

Weak manufacturing? LOL! The unions in this country have made it impossible to have manufacturing in the U.S. They have killed the golden goose. And to make it worse, the wacko environmentalists have blocked every attempt to have manufacturing in our country. Of course, incompetent and spineless politicians have caved in to their demands. Where are the hearings on “global warming” with Al Gore being the first witness?

Deep across the board tax cuts, let the federal government survive on what remains of tarp and the stimulus.

Federal, State and local government hiring freeze.

Cut the Departments of education, agriculture and energy.

Simplify the IRS with a flat tax.

Give 100% tax cuts for AE infrastructure and labor and equipment for that infrastructure.

Vote them ALL out.

Consumer confidence is down and we have weak manufacturing. Welcome to Obamanomics in the real world.

To all you government loving liberals out there I have a question for you. As a small business owner why should I work harder, hire more employees, and have confidence in the economy when the only thing that is going to happen is the government and Obama are going to take MY profits??? The answer is – I am not going to do it! And obviously I am not alone!

One thing is for sure the government is really good at lying and many are very good at living in the shadow of their delusions.

I work at a top 20 company and they will not hire again because of fears of the impending costs to bring on a new employee. Tax rates too high, cap and trade on the horizon, and possible govt healthcare, all make up the mix of why there will be no increased hiring. We are NOT in an economic recovery!! Actually what the U.S. needs is more workers who will do the jobs that Americans just will not do. The real wealth of our country is built on the backs of cheap labor, that’s why we ship manufacturing jobs overseas and bring in cheap tech workers from countries such as India. Then we can all sit around sip latte’s and reap the benefits that our business elites have created.

We just had the greatest growth month in the economy in 50 years….. right and I have some swamp land to sell you. I think it was just inflation and a lot of hot air coming out of Obama. We need to fire the dems in congress and make sure McAwful goes with them.

I just saw an interesting map of the unemployment concentrations countrywide. What really got me was that the economy was shedding jobs even before the start of the Republican Recession. Unemployment was going up on both coasts and in the deep south before the declaration of the Republican Recession at the end of 2007. Do you think the numbers were being cooked back then to make us believe that the employment issue was not a problem. It kind of makes you wonder.

Why would any business hire with the idiots in the administration? I would also lay off employees if I owned a business. No one knows what these idiots will impose next on businesses. I agree with another post that the environmentalists and unions have destroyed the manufacturing in this country.

We are witnessing history repeating itself. We got comfortable because of our strength and safety, let our guard down and became suseptable to corruption. Now the rust is rampant and self-corroding. We can stop it if we open our eyes and fight for our once beautiful state.

I too am disgusted w/ both parties. When Bush passed tax cuts for companies that sent good paying jobs to other countries the Democrats should have raised H__L and gone public and the cowards didn’t. And we need to hold Obama to his promise to give tax breaks to companies that create jobs w/in the U.S. As a candidate he promised to do this and we need to make certain he does. Hold him to it!!

After serious consideration, and much deliberation, I realize that the falling job numbers is my fault. No one else is taking the blame so might as well do it myself.

I can hardly read anything in the media without coming across tripe like this written by some Obama cheerleader (or interjected by their Obama cheerleader editor).

Obama has pumped lots of capital into his crony friends in the financial industry to rebuild their balance sheets, pay bonuses to his donors and speculate against the Greeks and has pumped lots of capital into state governments to increase the employment of unionized state workers but his actions have sucked away any capital that may have been lent to businesses. The Obama stagnation is here to stay . . . . until it is replaced by the Obama stagflation.

Obviously, Obama needs to increase tariffs, start a trade war, and to institute wage and price controls.

Those steps worked SO WELL during the Great Depression.

Oops, I see that he already is doing all that (e.g., Going after Toyota and controlling wages & prices.

We must be on our way to recovery!

The solution to all of this economic nonsense is simple. Tolerate people spending into the red. Stop budget cutting. Stop job cutting. Let people spend some money they don’t have (not a lot, mind you, but some) and ignore the fact that it’s technically money they don’t have. Absolve all debts and resume normal lending and interest rates and debt payment requirements when the economy is back on its feet.

Obamanomics is NOT to blame, it’s all those state and private budget cuts that are to blame. The politically motivated defeatist attitude of the private sector isn’t helping matters any.

We are dead – the US has been destined for this since FDR -and his socialist Marxist ilk instituted Social Security. We have had crises at different times – averted by infusing money into the economy through low interest rates – those were band-aids. The patient is bleeding from every orifice and nothing can stop it. Get some land, guns, and some non-hybrid seeds and hunker down until the rabble stop killing each other for every last scrap of bread. Maybe we can rebuild – more likely we will become a tributary of China or Russia

Wrecking the economy is job ONE in this administration. Then only the Feds will be able to “save us”. They will not get out of the way because in the way is their place, to control everything in every way.
Prayer is our best option. The Senate reconciliation health bill will reduce our freedom if enacted. They are making the big “play” It is their last best option to achieve their goals now!

As a Wall Street employee, I depend on my bonus as a large part of my income. I just love it when the government takes 30% right off the top. Now, I can’t blame that on Obama because it’s always been like that, but if I were running my own business in this environment that Obama is planning, I would control costs with a hiring freeze at the very least, and likely layoffs if possible. Human resources have great liabilties, so they are the first to go.

This economy will start growing again when people stop buying cheap products from china that only last a few days and start buying made in USA. The consumer groups are what ruined this nation. Now the consumer has more rights the producers and sellers, except in China. That is the only reason china can sell so many cheap goods.
