If they would stop or just freeze their arms build up there will be no justification for these arms sale. In fact, the huge defensive build up of the communist military is the root cause of all the arms race in the entire Asian region. So much for the peaceful emergence of a peace loving China. “Do you know how to catch wild pigs?”
You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming.
When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side.
The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again.
You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught.
Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.” This exactly what is happening in America. The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tax cuts, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time.
One should always remember two truths:
1) There is no such thing as a free lunch
2) You can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.
If you see that all of this wonderful government ‘help’ is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America, you might want to send this on to your friends.
If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life, then you will probably are on welfare of some sort.
But God help you when the gate slams shut!

They are still an active recruiter of ethinic chinese citizens of the US to engage in espionage against our military and our research establishment pressuring these citizens of the US to betray this country on the grounds that as chinese americans they should support the chinese peoples republic over the interests of the US due to their common ethinnic heritage. They also still continually seek to provide finaincial support to the RETHUGLICAN PARTY even going so far as to demand the release from prison of US RETHUGLICANS who were convicted for arranging finacing for the RETHUGLICANS from various chinese banks including one directly owned by the red army. They also continue to threaten other governments for their involvement with the US, i.e. the illegal occupation of a northern Phillipine island where they tried to build an advanced military base suitable for conducting operations through out the southern Pacific region, they continue to poison the Pacific fisheries with toxic discharges directly into the Pacific version of the Gulf Stream in an attempt to spread toxins and other destructive pollutants into US waters and to destroy the fisheries that many American pacific coastal states depend on economically, they still promote polices of copyright infringement soley to destroy US economic interests as well as being the most egresious producer of illegal knockoffs targeting the consumer US markets, they engage in false flag labling to disguise the source of toxic products to evade US border controls, they have encouraged and secured concessions from Mexico to be the proxy conduit for access to US markets using the flawed provisions of NAFTA that the Bush administration allowed to continue with full knowledge of their actual evasion of IMPORT control laws and to bypass US import restrictions, etc.etc.etc. It is time to get tough with China and to recognize their intent to achieve (first) parity with our military capabilities soley for undertaking military action against the US and our interests in the Pacific and elsewhere and they do not make any distictions between attacks on our health, economy, government and the civilian populations of the United States. 2. They redeem the bonds at face value fromthe US in exchange for buying US construction equipment, F-22s, F-35s, computers etc.

3. The value goes directly to stimulating US jobs and industry, the allies get US goods (and US spare parts contracts for the future) and the Chinese get under face value. Everyone wins. (Except the Chicom government who sold cheap.)

2)To default on bonds sold to China will not work in this global market. China can unload all the US bonds at hugh discount in the global market… and the US financial system will collapse. Just like you default on credit card payment and the bank sold your note to a third party in the global market — could be any country… if US default on China, the US defaults the whole world, and our financial system oollapse instantly…China will get hurt, buy they can still produce “real things” to sell to the non-Western world while we produce only paper money and “services” which is basically useless when comes to that point.

Taxes4,

Goods to the US represents less than a fifth of China’s total economy and GDP.

They would take a hit temporarily by dumping dollars, yes, but then the United States would take the brunt of the damage by descending like Argentina into 2nd or 3rd world status. The dollar would be worth less than toilet paper.

Your ideas are rather simplistic. First of all, China cannot dump 2 trillion dollars in a second. It takes time, and before the transactions are done, everyone will know about it. The dollar would crash before they dumped all their money, and the might get a few billion out of it. That means they would lose over a trillion dollars in a flash.

Also, you meantioned that trade with the US is about 1/5 of their economy. 20 percent is a huge number. But not only would they lose this 1/5 of their economy, but they would also lose the export markets of nations who would be affected by the dollar crash, EU, Japan, Korea, ASEAN, Australia, Canada, some middle eastern nations, many south American nations, and even Russia. China would lose a lot more than just 1/5 of their economy.

Therefore, China will not dump the dollar or US T-bills; they might only slow down their purchase. But other will buy them, for example, Japan and Germany who both need the export markets for their growth.

If the US put high tariffs on ALL chinese goods, which i support since china has been practicing a harsh form of economic protectionism for the past 15 years, China would lose a big chunk of thei GDP. 1/5 is a huge number. They wouldn’t lose that much, but even a few percent would reverse China’s momentum.

Personally, I think the Chinese were given too many handouts by the EU and the US. We let them export to our markets so that they can grow, and now they are getting arrogant. Just look at the comments of chinese on here. China is a rising, arrogant nation, and we need to stop treating them like a developing nation and hit them hard.

People know what T-bills are. It is you who does not understand the situation. China’s “face” or reputation is only in GDP. If trade were cut off, there is no more GDP rise in China, there will be less investment, and no more money to buy US T-bills.

Without exports, China is nothing. And, without the US, exports will decline at a fast rate. The EU is also tired of Chinese protectionist mentality, such as currency manipulation, traditional and non-traditional trade protectionism, and discimination against foreign companies in China. When the ASEAN-china free trade agreement takes hold, more foreign companies will set up shop in ASEAN nations and export to China. They will do this because foreign companies are getting tired of being attacked (google) and arrested (Rio tinto) or just discriminated against (most companies that do development work are told that the local governments can only hire local companies to do roads and energy work).

Chinese are so worried that other nations are going to try and hurt their growth, but they don’t realize that Chinese arrogance, racism, and xenophobia is what will end their rise before it even starts.

So much so about national pride on both side of the Pacific. I do not think it is of national interest for China to be enemy of USA and vice versa. The sale of obsolete weapons to Taiwan is just a taxation on the Taiwan people. China will never use force on Taiwan, period. Just ask each and every province of China to establish close tie with Taiwan on one aspect of Taiwan life, the bond will be so strong that the two cannot be separated. The reverse is also true. ie Let each province compete with one aspect of life with Taiwan and Taiwan will be exhausted. Who would be so stupid to fire a single shot? It is not appropriate for PLA Officials to talk about monetary policies. The army should be subordinated to the leadership of politicans, not the other way round. It is true in all civilised countries. Foreign currency reserves are other people’s money. Just like when one enters the casino to change money for the chip. The reserve belongs to the patron and not the casino. If anyone have any illusion, it is just naive.

Not too late to turn things around while China is currently overestimating her strength and we are underestimating the power that we still retain.

2001 China’s entry into the World Trade Organization.
2001 Our Nation began its irresponsible tax and spending policies that will lead to our future bankruptcy.

#1. Purchase Made in Canada, Made in Mexico, Made in USA product before you purchase a Made in China product.
Canada and Mexico are in no danger of becoming a frankenstein monster to our nation.

China’s dumping our bonds will perhaps wake us up to the unsustainable relationship that we have developed that is sapping our nations strength and creating a Frankenstein Chinese monster.

Our nation appears to respond better to such sudden threats rather than the slow cooking process of a frog in water that is gradually turned up in temperature.

Our trade/finance polices with China are unsustainable and we cannot count on our Political and Corporate elites to pull us out of this danger.

The Chinese Communist Government has already usurped U.S. global economic power, by allowing Congress to borrow trillions from China. China need only raise its interest rate on U.S. Loans or call in its loans to cripple U.S. military defense budgets. A default by U.S. Government on China loans would destroy U.S. credit ratings and the dollar globally, particularly with oil producing nations that accept U.S. Dollars. U.S. Government would have to impose higher taxes on U.S. Citizens and corporations to pay escalating interests on Chinese loans, shrinking U.S. Citizens’ discretionary income needed to buy American goods and services, resulting in greater U.S. unemployment. U.S. skyrocketing borrowing and deficit spending has run the debt ceiling past 14 Trillion, at some point that will strangle the U.S. economy. Meanwhile China is restraining its economy from expanding. The just recent Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission appears to put corporations at par with “natural persons”, i.e. humans eliminating limits on corporate political contributions. China can now use both its financial interests in corporations located in the U.S. and in corporations it shares interests with U.S. corporations, to both exert its influence and provide contributions to influence U.S. legislation that may affect the U.S. economy and American democracy.

China Dumps US Asset Backeds and Corporates
February 9th, 2010
By David Goldman

Dollar-denominated risk assets, including asset-backed securities and corporates, are no longer wanted at the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE), nor at China’s large commercial banks. The Chinese government has ordered its reserve managers to divest itself of riskier securities and hold only Treasuries and US agency debt with an implicit or explicit government guarantee. This already has been communicated to American securities dealers, according to market participants with direct knowledge of the events.

It is not clear whether China’s motive is simple risk aversion in the wake of a sharp widening of corporate and mortgage spreads during the past two weeks, or whether there also is a political dimension. With the expected termination of the Federal Reserve’s special facility to purchase mortgage-backed securities next month, some asset-backed spreads already have blown out, and the Chinese institutions may simply be trying to get out of the way of a widening. There is some speculation that China’s action has to do with the recent deterioration of US-Chinese relations over arm sales to Taiwan and other issues. That would be an unusual action for the Chinese to take–Beijing does not mix investment and strategic policy–and would be hard to substantiate in any event.

Saber rattling and trigger happy morons on both sides. You must have shares of Lockheed Martin to want US to wage the third war now against an organized Chinese Army. This isn’t picking off insurgents in Afgan in the comfort of your Apache.

Whenever we mention that American volunteer fighter pilots helped Chinese people fight off Japanese bombers over Shanghai & Beijing during the 1920-40, nearly all Chinese people and military personnel show gratitude and high respect towards US.
China just doesn’t like us meddling around their reunification effort with Taiwan. By selling arms to Taiwan, we are seen as breaching that trust, thus, their reaction is understandable.

How would you like to see China supplying arms to El Qaida or Taliban ?? If you feel that’s outrageous, then you begin to feel why Chinese military wants to strike back. But I am not worrying too much as the Chinese military is under the full control of their political system, and not the other way around, as we have in the US where our Defense Industry calls all the shots, pays the piper and names the tune all presidents would sing.

On the same token, we should remind ourselves that most of our soldiers killed in Afganistan by roadside IEDs made from US bombs that we “supplied” to Mujahadeens to kill Russians decades ago. In the first explanation, it seems like it’s Israel who is using the US for protection. but in the second explanation, it would be more like the US(neo-con) is using Israel for its world domination through oil control. In any case, the face explanation that we see on the media is only for fools.

But this wouldn’t be an easy solution either. As you know as much as everybody else, the US has full of people who do not care about the interests of the US, but their own personal interests and those of their country of origine: The Indians will outsource all american high-end jobs, the Israelis will pressure on the US to spend billions to bomb the hell out of Iran, etc…

If they start selling our bonds, then they will lose because the rest of their bond holdings will plummet. This is in the design though. We sell expensive bonds, have the markets crash and buy our debt back on the cheap. Simply brilliant.

One thing we cannot do is to make good on US bonds. That is called defaulting on your debt and we would lose our AAA international credit rating, which would hurt our country much more in the long run.

Kangaroo courts are sham legal proceedings which are set-up in order to give the impression of a fair legal process. In fact, they offer no impartial justice as the verdict, invariably to the detriment of the accused, is decided in advance.

Sorry, but it is you who really doesn’t know much about the world. You also don’t know much about economics. You only say that the USA is going down and China is rising, but you don’t say how.
China has problems:
1. Rising inflation
2. A huge housing bubble that started in the cities like Beijing and Shanghai but is now stretching to the smaller cities.
3. A growing backlash against Chinese protectionism; this is a backlash that is global.
4 Crashing business confidence due to illegal actions such as arresting the Rio tinto guy and attacking google.
5. China needs an 8 percentage rise in GDP every year to keep the masses happy. This was said by your own leaders. 8 percent can’t continue forever, and when inflation kicks in more, people will be even more discontent. People are already unhappy about the housing prices.
6. economic inequality. I don’t think I met one person who isn’t concerned about this.
7. the years of pollution will catch up with China’s GDP. Pollution in the rivers and land will take off points from future GDP, since china will have to spend to clean it up.

In the meantime, there is no alternative to the US dollar as a reserve currency. We can use gold, but didn’t we try that before. The EU is in worse shape than the US, and the Euro is not such a sure thing anymore. The RMB is valued to the dollar and nobody wants that until China raises its value. The Yen has never been a possibility.

It really is the most radical, racist chinese people who post on western webpages. I hope more western people see CNP’s post. This is the kind of people you deal with when you are dealing with China. I would rather invest in a more civilized nation.

BenFranklin,

Exactly, I don’t think the Chinese realize that the only reason they have money now is because we opened our markets to Chinese goods. In fact, they owe everything to us, but they are now trying to bite that hand that fed it for over 15 years. That is why I don’t like china anymore. They are ungrateful and greedy.

Their media is full of lies and manipuulations. They constantly talk about US rising trade protectionism, but what they don’t realize is that the US was open to them for 15 years while china was closed. It is, in fact, China who has been the economic imperialist, protectionist. Now, I hope Obama fights back at China’s backwards policies.

Another thing is that their media always says that the US and other western nations are forcing China to raise their currency value and it is bad for china. What they don’t say is that if they raise the value of the RMB, china’s market will be bigger, the economy will be bigger, and chinese can buy more. If chinese knew the truth, they would be pushing for the RMB rise as well. But inflation will kick in eventually, and china will have no choice in the end.

You don’t even have to switch to India. In fact, most high quality, cheap products come from South America. Thailand is also competing with China. The fact that the Chinese think they are the only ones shows how ignorant some of them are. If they become too arrogant, there are other nations the US and the EU can open up to. In fact, I hope this is Obama’s plan.

to blackpagoda,

I am a supporter of Obama as well. I believe at the core, he is not anti-China. however, judged on his actions, he is not in control of his own fate, not to mention his actions. In this country, the lobby and some interest groups, esp. the arm industry, the neo-cons, and some other “minority” group are just too power that they actually dictate the policy of the US.

Poor Americans, there is no future for them as every interest group is trying the rip off this country.

War is one clear example. Another is the health care reform, an obvious choice for a common American. Third is finance industry reform. The decision of all these good initiatives are dictated by the interest groups.

America will go down …

blackpagoda,

It is funny, isn’t it? Chinese in China will yell really loud in Chinese talking about how ugly black people are or how Indians supposedly smell. They will say bad things about chinese who hangout with other foreigners. My roommate was even attacked by a chinese guy because his wife is Asian (not even chinese but Thai). The list goes on of racist incidents in china, and the only ones who don’t think china is a racist, xenophobic country are the chinese who have been brainwashed into thinking the chinese are the nicest people in the world.

As for Texas4. what is he talking about? White sepremacy? I think he grew up in the 60 or something. obama is the president now. Blacks are scientists, writers, politicians, lawyers, etc. etc etc. The US has problems, but nothing compared to China’s racism against tibetans or xinjiang people. China also has a discrimination problem where beijingers hate hebei people or shanghai people look down on everyone else. This texas4 guy doesn’t have a clue, but i am assuming he is either a chinese in disguise, or a simpathetic American who has never actually been to china or lived in China.

He is right about one thing, though. Foreigners in China get fed up with chinese racism and xenophobia. china is one of the least friendly nations to foreigners. Then they wonder why we don’t like them; they call us and our friends names, attack foreigners, etc etc. and then they expect us to like them still. Why should foreigners respect chinese when chinese have no respect for anyone? This is why I think China has not future. Foreign investments will move to a more foreign-friendly nation.
