Everyone: Grow up. This has nothing to do with their being nominally Muslim or not. It has to do with the human condition. By analogy with your comments, commenters in Muslim countries could consider Charles Manson or John Wayne Gacy an example of what is wrong with Christianity and Christians. How does that make any sense?

The First Crusade was the most successful from a military point of view. Accounts of this action are shocking. For example, historian Raymond of Agiles described the capture of Jerusalem by the Crusaders in 1099:

Some of our men cut off the heads of their enemies; others shot them with arrows, so that they fell from the towers; others tortured them longer by casting them into the flames. Piles of heads, hands and feet were to be seen in the streets of the city. It was necessary to pick one’s way over the bodies of men and horses.

Dont forget you history civilized countries of the world

Abusing “servants” happens in the US and extensively in South America amongst the upper income classes also. BUT in the US we have income taxes that do a bit to level the class differences.

Just think – if the upper upper classes in the US (who are usually too cheap to even give 2.7% of their income to charity while the lower classes give a much higher percentage) have a permanent income tax cut then we might be able to generate tabloid headlines like these in OUR country!

People can be extraordinarily sadistic just for the sake of their own enjoyment. You are right, normal people do not behave this way. (i.e. vp Dick Cheney not being anywhere near normal. Nails and water-boarding are moral equivalent even though not a physical equivalent. The same sick emotional illness applies.) Then throw on top of that they were from a Fascist Theocracy that both religiously and civilly condone mutilation and murder for the smallest of crime, and depending on your culture, most of those so-called “crimes” are not even considered anything approaching crime.

Regarding Srilankans, they are peace loving and humble people and tend to suffer in silence.Do not mistake that this is happening only to non Muslims, even Muslims from other countries suffer the same fate in Saudi but they are either too shocked or do not want to complain. The best thing for anyone to do is not to go or send anyone you know to the gulf for becoming a Maid and also treat them shabbily when they visit your country and act arrogant. Ive heard Malaysian drivers complain about the arrogant nature of the Saudi tourists. Remember what happened to a oil rich country which had a similar large arrogant and filthy rich population and was ground to dust by Saddam not that I am trying to justify his act. Remember by doing this what the Saudis are creating is a worldwide phenomenon of hate against their population which will surface slowly.

This article makes me sick to my stomach. As disturbing as it is, I have to say that this is an example of the absence of morality not a demonstration of Islam or any religion. If we associate these actions with Islam then are we to associate the rape and torture African and African-American slaves suffered for hundreds of years with Christianity?

The King is trying to bring them to the 20th century (from the 15th). It will take time. But the majority of the people are as kind as you outranged commenters.
The solution is for India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sudan, and Philippines to refuse exit visas for workers unless the Kingdom permits consulates to visit the worksites of these workers for private interviews and have the power to take them back under diplomatic pouch.
People who flee an abusive workplace are called “run a ways”. They are then forced to live underground since their “sponsors” hold their passports. There is a law against running away!
