Arms treaty debate increasingly testy in Senate

Political infighting and corruption make a failed government… or one on its way to failure. Mitch McConnell portrays both. He is absolutely partisan, believing in absolute domination of the political system instead of sharing power with others. His corruption is easily seen in the amount of earmarks he lands for his home state. The GOP is seen by the people as corrupt because they are all about the rich, big business, and corporate interest. The GOP, in their present form, is dangerous to America. Indeed, one might even say poisonous. Not all of those in the GOP follow McConnell’s line of thinking, but with him at the helm the GOP is certainly very bad news for America. The lack of GOP support for START is an obvious example.

Rising Republican anger over partisanship is not what is happening on the floor of the Senate, as anyone who has been paying the slightest bit of attention knows. Republicans have been blocking every piece of legislation by filibuster, in order to deny any sort of perceived victory to President Obama. We know this because several Republican Senators have said exactly that many times in recent weeks. That is partisanship. Trying to pass the START treaty is completely non-partisan, since practically every Senator of either party has expressed support for doing exactly that in the past.

The Repubs are attempting to “limit” the Presidents “victories”. How can you hold up a signicant piece of legislation based on the premise that if we obstruct this president as much as we can, we will make him look “weak”. That is the most childish way of thinking – like school boys fighting over an area of the playground. The sad thing is most adults think this way also.

Does anyone see the past their own noses to see that the Russians are pushing very very hard for this deal? Was there ever a time before when the Russians pushed so hard for a deal with us? Perhaps it is because the deal is very much in their favor.

Some of you that write from abroad have not a clear picture of what is going on in country. First of all, the congress had plenty of time to review, discuss, and vote. What is the urgency of voting during lame-duck session. -Beside “doing” something because nothing was done during the year. All is very fishy. Why is Russia so eager to sign the treaty? This bill has to be reviewed with time and calm. It does not pass the smell proof. The world is not going to end with few more week to understand what is in it. We do no want another Obamacare trojan horse.

How can there be any debate on this. The historical record of treaties is 100% reliable, right?
I mean, what could possibly go wrong with …a treaty?

Opponents of START know they don’t support the agreement, but they’re having a little trouble explaining why. They keep bringing up new complaints, all of which are easily debunked and proven baseless.

It’s probably a lost cause, but the Republicans’ handling of this debate really should generate a wholesale reevaluation of which party has earned credibility on foreign policy and international affairs.

It was reported in either this paper or IHT that the nuclear non proliferation treaty and even the start treaty are nearly pointless now. It is possible to build conventional very high yield bombs that are as destructive as nuclear weapons. There may have been remarkable advances in explosives chemistry that simply aren’t common knowledge. It will take a while to find these articles, but I remember them within the past few months.

Mutantone is the only one who may understand what Mutantone is saying.

I don’t know what it is about humanity that can’t live without a dose of paranoia and a death wish. Maybe it’s just a knock the block off my shoulder attitude. It’s catchy. No matter what treaties are signed there is somehow always a party or interest that will seek to profit by finding loopholes in the agreement. And this isn’t just a humanitarian issue. It is an issue that pits sanity against the ability of thousands of people to make a living. Paranoia and defense against it are supposed to be good thinking in Government circles but you have a problem if you do that as a private citizen. But defense makes voters feel cozy and protected not impotent.

And that’s the force that wins every time. The people who have to sacrifice their time and money to fight interests that are making money defending theirs are the people likely to loose the argument. Is it not so?

This government is one that respects the moneyed because they are the people who have the longest reach and the greatest influence. The people who want – may even delight in the creation and manufacture of marvelous new ways to annihilate their fellow beings – usually in constant conflict for resources – know that weapons manufacture is a very big business.

In some big historical picture – mankind may be like a forest that has to burn on occasion to allow for destruction of old decay and to allow for fresh growth. Try to give a few historical examples when that hasn’t been the case?
