Wow… I am not sure how much steam this story will get, but this is a very very big deal. I sincerely hope this type of collusion is not still prevalent at either company.

(quote) Apple workers assembling iPhones, iPads and other devices often labor in harsh conditions … Employees work excessive overtime, in some cases seven days a week, and live in crowded dorms. Some say they stand so long that their legs swell until they can hardly walk. Under-age workers have helped build Apple’s products, and the company’s suppliers have improperly disposed of hazardous waste and falsified records,”

Steve iCon Jobs – may you be reborn speaking mandarin and working in one of your iPhoney factories.

It is better to pay a higher price for decent americans to assemble apple products in decent conditions than support modern slavery. Boycott.

To me, Apple is just a lot of hype. Same with Facebook. Both encourage selfish and shallow behavior. Both founders are jerks and everyone knows it yet still the hoards follow them. Too bad for society. It explains a lot about the current state of affairs.

Apple doesn’t have any right to ask competitors to stop “poaching” his employees. They are not deer on his private estate. Unless they were working under some kind of contract with Apple, I believe they are effectively free to graze in other woodlands.

BTW – Yesterday I got two emailed copies of the new Google “privacy policy” and all I saw was eyewash. I saw lots of – we want to serve you better blah blah and only one “we don’t sell user information”. Ands I tried to follow the embedded links to see anything that looked like a legal statement of facts. Nothing, just smooth talk and pretty graphics.

Ah how unsurprising. Oh Jobs, trying to keep other people from making more of that money you were pocketing.

Apple. Think monopoly.

Are you really shocked that this happened, I work for a trucking company where this happened. A rival company came to town and was setting up a new service center, after hiring away a few drivers the owner of the company called up his counterpart and ask that they stop poaching. Several employees tried to applied but was turned away and told that they were not allowed to hire anymore employees from company “A”.
