Shares in some smallcap companies have bounced dramatically in the past few
days as buyers start to come back to this often volatile part of the market,
creating a demand mismatch.
Alizyme , a biotech company, has doubled in value in the past two
days while engineer White Young Green has trebled.
"We've seen this in a number of stocks this week. A lot of the smaller
companies have been bashed out of sight with the recent turmoil and all of a
sudden a few retail buyers are descending on these stocks and there's nothing to
get in the way," a trader says.
"There are no sellers around at the moment because the market's going better
and it squeezes the shares quite tightly. That's what we're seeing -- bear
squeezes right across the board."
Hotel group MWB is up over 60 percent, meaning it too has doubled in
value over the last two days, while car hire firm Avis Europe is also
close to doubling in value over the last week.
All of them are still trading at a fraction of their value prior to the
onset of the credit crunch in 2007, however.
