ANKARA, July 13 (Reuters) - Turkey's Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday Turkey wants Iranian gas to be transported to Europe via the planned Nabucco pipeline "when conditions allow".

Transit agreements for the European Union and the United States-backed Nabuco pipeline will be signed in Ankara. The U.S. opposes including Iran in the project.

Erdogan said Qatar can take a major role in the project through a liquified natural gas terminal in Turkey and he believes Russian gas can be transported to the European markets via Nabucco. (Reporting by Thomas Grove and Orhan Coskun)
