UPDATE 1-Comtech Q3 results beat market view; shares rise

June 3 (Reuters) - Telecommunications equipment maker Comtech Telecommunications Corp (CMTL.O) posted quarterly earnings that beat market estimates, helped by growth in its telecommunications transmission and RF microwave amplifiers segments, sending its shares up 6 percent.

For the third quarter ended April 30, the company earned $8.2 million, or 29 cents a share, compared with $19.3 million, or 70 cents a share, in the year-ago period.

Net sales fell 7 percent to $128.5 million.

Analysts on average expected earnings of 22 cents a share on revenue of $127.7 million, according to Reuters Estimates.

Shares of the Melville, New York-based company, whose products are used in commercial and defense satellite applications, were trading at $31.08 after the bell. They closed at $29.27 Wednesday on Nasdaq.
