Feb 3 (Reuters) - BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc (BMRN.O) said a mid-stage study of its product candidate to treat peripheral arterial disease (PAD) did not show a significant difference when compared to a dummy drug.

The primary objective of the study was to evaluate mean change in peak walking time from baseline to week 24 in patients suffering from PAD, a condition where plaque builds up in the arteries and blocks blood flow, causing pain and numbness in the limbs.

The product, 6R-BH4, which is being studied in a number of other cardiovascular indications and sickle cell disease, did not show a statistical difference in its secondary goal also, the biopharmaceutical company said in a statement.

BioMarin shares were trading down 3 percent at $19.10 Tuesday morning on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Aradhana Aravindan in Bangalore; Editing by Amitha Rajan)
