Nov 3 (Reuters) - Energy company Comstock Resources Inc (CRK.N) reported third-quarter earnings that beat analysts' estimates, helped by strength in its onshore operations.

Production from the company's continuing onshore operations increased 23 percent to 15 billion cubic feet equivalent (Bcfe). Oil and gas sales almost doubled from last year.

The company said it expects to spend $425 million in 2008, including $114 million for the acquisition of new leases in the Haynesville shale, funded with operating cash flow.

Comstock Resources shares closed down nearly 9 percent at $45.16 Monday on the New York Stock Exchange.
