May 6 (Reuters) - Global logistics service provider Expeditors International of Washington Inc (EXPD.O) posted a 11 percent drop in quarterly profit that came in below Wall Street expectations, hurt by a weak freight market.

For the first quarter, net income was $59.3 million, or 27 cents a share, compared with $66.5 million, or 30 cents a share, a year ago.

Total revenue fell 30 percent to $912.7 million.

Analysts were looking for earnings of 30 cents a share, before special items, on revenue of $1.16 billion, according to Reuters Estimates.

"The March quarter end rush did not materialize to the extent that we've experienced it in the past," Chief Executive Peter Rose said in a statement.

Shares of the company closed at $37.13 Wednesday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by A. Ananthalakshmi in Bangalore; Editing by Jarshad Kakkrakandy)
