Feb 10 (Reuters) - Enzon Pharmaceuticals Inc (ENZN.O) shareholder DellaCamera Capital and affiliates urged the company to appoint a new financial advisor and to hold its 2009 annual shareholder meeting in New York City, according to a regulatory filing.
DellaCamera, which reported a 7.6 percent stake in the cancer drug developer, however, said it was encouraged by Enzon's nomination of Alexander Denner and Richard Mulligan to board and thinks that they should be immediately added to the board. In a letter to the Enzon management, DellaCamera also criticized the company for its earlier plan to spin-off its biotechnology unit and the issuance of certain convertible senior notes.
Enzon, which had also been advised by billionaire investor Carl Icahn to review strategic transactions, had announced the spin-off of its biotechnology business in May last year, but later dropped the plan citing market conditions.
Goldman Sachs is currently the financial advisor to Enzon. The company's shares, which have risen about 89 percent over the past three months, closed at $7.23 Monday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Esha Dey in Bangalore; Editing by Gopakumar Warrier)
