India agency issues tax notice to Jet Airways-paper
NEW DELHI, June 24 (Reuters) - An Indian government agency has issued a notice to India's Jet Airways (JET.BO) for potential tax liabilities of at least 4 billion rupees ($83 million), the Mint newspaper said, citing two unnamed government officials.
The notice by the Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence relates to service tax liability for the import of services by the carrier over the last five years, it said.
"I am not in a position to comment," Jet Executive Director Saroj Dutta told Reuters.
The newspaper quoted a Jet Airways spokeswoman as saying the company would respond to the authorities after examining its legal position.
A spokeswoman for the Central Board of Excise and Customs declined to comment. ($1=48.4 rupees) (Reporting by Devidutta Tripathy; Editing by Ranjit Gangadharan & Ian Geoghegan)
