APPLE DAILY

-- Macau had denied entry to student leader Wuerkaixi, who ranked second on a list of 21 most-wanted people after the Tiananmen Square crackdown and who has been planning to hand himself over to mainland authorities to stand trial.

MING PAO

-- K. Wah International's (0173.HK) chairman Lui Chee-woo said he objected to a proposal by the Hong Kong bourse to introduce quarterly reporting because it would add cost and divert management focus mostly to figures. He said the current half-year and yearly reports are sufficient.

SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST

-- Guangzhou Investment (0123.HK) has bought two sites in Jiangmen in Guangdong province for 968 million yuan ($141.7 million), in a bid to capture growing demand for residential properties.

-- Minority shareholders of China Resources Microelectronics (0597.HK) had voted down a HK$698 million offer on Wednesday to take the semiconductor maker private, the latest in a series of setbacks for firms trying to privatise.

-- Developer K. Wah International (0173.HK) expects to book more than 2 billion yuan from sales at its Shanghai residential project Shanghai Westwood this year, according to a senior executive.

HONG KONG ECONOMIC JOURNAL

-- Beijing Enterprises Holdings (0392.HK) will spend 3-4 billion yuan this year in acquiring assets taking advantage of low asset valuations, of which 60 percent will be used to buy more gas assets and the remainder 40 percent on water treatment projects, a senior executive said.

-- China's securities watchdog China Securities Regulatory Commission has aproved China Southern Airlines' (1055.HK) plan to issue up to 721.15 million H shares to Nan Lung.

HONG KONG ECONOMIC TIMES

-- China Resources Land (1109.HK) said its contracted sales amounted to 8.66 billion yuan in the first five months of this year, 5.78 times higher than the same period a year ago and representing 80 percent of its full-year sales target.

THE STANDARD
