- POLL WATCHDOG TO INVESTIGATE PARLIAMENT SEAT ALLOCATION

Indonesia's Elections Supervisory Committee said it would investigate after the General Election Commission (KPU) changed the allocation of parliament house seats at the last minute. The re-allocation of seats left some small parties such as Gerindra and Hanura with fewer seats than they initially thought they would get.

- KPK MAY CONTINUE: LAWMAKERS

Indonesian legislators have said they will allow the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to continue its investigation inton graft involving politicians, business figures and civil servants. Lawmakers had earlier said that the KPK should cease its work while a murder investigation involving its former chief proceeded.

- MUSLIM NATIONS TO STANDARDISE FISHING

The eight Muslim-majority countries, members of the Developing Eight bloc, have agreed to write new standard fishing rules and enforce them by 2010, said an official from Indonesia's fishery ministry. The eight countries -- Iran, Egypt, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Turkey, Nigeria, Pakistan and Malaysia -- also agreed to boost trade co-operation of fish-related products.

- NGOS DECRY TREATMENT AT OCEAN CONFERENCE PROTEST

A group of Indonesian non-government organisations have accused the organisers of the World Ocean Conference in Manado in Sulawesi of human rights abuses after police broke up protests by local fisherman and arrested environmentalists, said a member of local environmental group Walhi.

- MUD VOLCANO CASE WILL CONTINUE: POLICE

East Java police said they will not drop an investigation into a drilling company, owned by the family of senior Golkar lawmaker Aburizal Bakrie, which was accused of causing a mud volcano near Sidoarjo. Indonesia's attorney general's office said earlier this week that they would not pursue the case.  Continued...
