UPDATE 1-UMW may bid against Sime for Ramunia-paper
(Adds UMW comment)
KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Reuters) - Malaysia's UMW Holdings (UMWS.KL) may launch a counterbid for energy services company Ramunia, which has received a takeover offer from Sime Darby (SIME.KL), the Malaysian Reserve said on Wednesday.
"Previously, Ramunia was in discussions with UMW but the talks went cold. Now UMW is interested again and they will be submitting their offer in the next few days," the paper said, citing an unidentified source.
When contacted, a spokesperson for UMW said the report "is not true", adding that the firm had no such plans.
Plantations-to-property conglomerate Sime Darby on Monday launched a bid to buy Ramunia (RAMU.KL) for 232 million ringgit ($65.85 million).
