The FTSE Small Cap index .FTSC closes 0.6 percent higher, while the midcaps .FTMC end up 1.2 percent, and the blue chips .FTSE are 2.2 percent higher.
Mobile Doctors (MODO.L) jumps nearly 18 percent after the medical-evidence provider unveils first-half results, with revenue up 46 percent 14.06 million pounds, and pretax profit of 667,000 pounds against 21,000 pounds last time.
Hallin Marine (HMS.L) slumps more than 23 percent after the provider of subsea services to the oil and gas industry reports a fall in margins year-on-year in its first-half trading update. [ID:nL1678619]

Shares in Morgan Sindall (MGNS.L) lose 4.3 percent as an in-line trading update from the construction group prompts Panmure Gordon to cut its rating to "sell" from "buy", saying it's time to lock-in profits.
Morgan Sindall, says in a pre-close season statement, that it remains on track to meet expectations for the current year and is trading positively despite continuing to face challenging conditions.
Panmure Gordon, in a note, points out that Morgan Sindall's order book has eased slightly since May and competitive pressures are increasing in its construction business. Continued...
