LONDON, May 6 (Reuters) - Britain's FTSE 100 .FTSE index is seen opening
15-23 points, or as much as 0.5 lower on Wednesday, according to financial
bookmakers, retreating with global markets after solid gains in the previous
session and with a big batch of corporate and economic news to digest.
The UK blue chip index closed 93.72 points, or 2.2 percent higher on Tuesday
at 4,336.94 buoyed by strength in banks and heavyweight commodity issues.
Banks could retreat on Wednesday, however, after news Bank of America
(BAC.N) needs to raise fresh capital.
A source familiar with the results of the U.S. government stress tests told
Reuters late on Tuesday that Bank of America has been deemed to need as much as
$34 billion in additional capital. A Bank of America spokesman declined comment.

Britain's economy will shrink 4.3 percent this year, its sharpest decline
since the aftermath of World War Two, before staging a moderate export-driven
recovery in 2010, a leading academic thinktank forecast on Wednesday.
The National Institute of Economic and Social Research said the quarterly
growth forecast was gloomier than its last one in February because slumping
global trade made the earlier estimate of 2.7 percent contraction too
optimistic. [ID:nL564092]
But British consumer morale enjoyed its biggest monthly boost last month in
two years as people sensed the worst of the recession may have passed, a survey
showed on Wednesday.
The Nationwide Building Society's consumer confidence index rose to 50 last
month from 42 in March. The eight-point rise was the most marked improvement in
the index since May 2007 while the level was the highest since December.
