LJUBLJANA, July 2 (Reuters) - Slovenian drug company Krka's (KRKG.LJ) group sales were up 2 percent in the first half of 2009 at 477.9 million euros ($674 million), the company said on Thursday.
Sales in the Russian federation, which is Krka's biggest market, rose by 10 percent to 86.6 million euros while sales in southeastern Europe were down by 7 percent.
"The global crisis has caused lower purchasing power and lower value of local currencies on many markets that are important for Krka," the company said in a statement, adding its credit exposure remained sustainable.
It also said it had increased its workforce by 3 percent to 7,839 employees since the end of 2008. The company is due to release its full first-half results on July 30.
Shares in Krka rose by 0.6 percent to 69.3 euros on Thursday while the SBI index .SBI was down 0.65 percent. ($1=.7087 euros) (Reporting by Marja Novak; Editing by Greg Mahlich)
