UPDATE 1-Wintershall makes North Sea oil, gas find
(Adds details, Noreco statement)
OSLO, July 8 (Reuters) - German oil and gas group Wintershall, part of chemicals group BASF (BASF.DE), has found oil and gas in a North Sea well, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said on Wednesday.
"The size of the discoveries in the two reservoirs is estimated at a total of between 6 and 30 million standard cubic metres of recoverable oil equivalents," the directorate said in a statement.
The well, 10 km northeast of the Fram field, was drilled in 360 metres of water. Oil and gas were found in one formation and oil in another, it said.
Norwegian Energy Company (NOR.OL) (Noreco) said in a separate statement that the find was located on the Grosbeak prospect and that it was a very promising discovery estimated at 35-190 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalents.
Wintershall is operator of production licence 378 and holds 40 percent. Noreco holds 20 percent, as does Britain's Premier Oil (PMO.L) and Norway's Spring Energy.
Noreco said there were four main prospects and seven smaller prospects in the licence, in addition to the Grosbeak.
"The volume potential in the remaining four main prospects is substantial and estimated to be up to 375 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalents gross," Noreco said. (Reporting by Richard Solem, editing by Anthony Barker)
