European stock index futures point to a higher open following strong gains on Wall Street and ahead of results from U.S. bellwethers such as Goldman Sachs (GS.N).

Futures for the Eurostoxx 50 STXEc1, Germany's DAX FDXc1 and the French CAC 40 FCEc1 are up 0.5-1.1 percent.

U.S. shares gained more than 2 percent on Monday as bullish analyst comments on the financial sector reignited hopes that banks' quarterly results could be stronger than expected.
