BERLIN/FRANKFURT, June 23 (Reuters) - The Quelle mail order unit of German retailer Arcandor (AROG.DE) has "hardly any chance" of obtaining a state loan guarantee of some 50 million euros ($69.3 million), daily Financial Times Deutschland said on Tuesday. This was the conclusion reached on Monday evening by an inter-ministerial committee assessing Quelle's qualifications for such aid, the paper said, citing sources from the talks.

The committee believed the risk that Quelle would default on the loan was so high that the state would be liable for the guarantee immediately, the paper said, citing its sources.

Parent company Arcandor filed for insolvency earlier this month after the government rejected an appeal for state aid.

A spokeswoman for the Economy Ministry said that the inter-ministerial committee had yet to make a final decision about the aid.

The German state of Bavaria had said last week it could help to provide the loan guarantee for Quelle, which is based in the Bavarian town of Fuerth.

Spokesmen for Arcandor and for the Bavarian economy ministry said that fresh talks between the insolvent company and federal government representatives were scheduled for Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Prinovis, a joint subsidiary of Bertelsmann (BTGGg.F) and Springer (SPRGn.DE) which prints Quelle's mail order catalogue, has threatened to hold back delivery should it not get a guarantee that it will be paid.
