Italian Stocks - Factors to watch on June 1

 MILAN, June 1 (Reuters) - The following factors could affect
Italian markets on Monday.
 Reuters has not verified the newspaper reports, and cannot
vouch for their accuracy. New items are marked with (*).
 INDICES
 Milan's indices change from today to reflect the new
provider, the FTSE Group. Main index changes are the all-share
index .FTITLMS and the FTSE Mib index .
 
 After-hours trading is closed for a public holiday.
 
 FIAT (FIA.MI)
 A U.S. bankruptcy court judge approved the sale of most of
U.S. automaker Chrysler's assets to a group led by Fiat, as
expected.
 General Motors (GM.N) will file for bankruptcy later on

 Germany agreed a deal with Canadian auto parts group Magna
(MGa.TO), General Motors (GM.N) and the U.S. government to save
carmaker Opel, snubbing Fiat's rival offer. [ID:nLU272618].
 
 The failure of Fiat's bid for Opel brought Italy's
government under fire from unions and opposition politicians.

 Car sales figures for May will be published by the Transport
Ministry at 1600 GMT.
 
 ENEL (ENEI.MI)
 The utility launches its capital increase. The offer is 13
new shares for every 25 held at a price of 2.48 euros per share,
aimed at raising nearly 8 billion euros. [ID:nLS328869]
 
 Libya's sovereign fund, the Libyan Investment Authority,
will probably buy around 2 percent of Enel in the capital
increase, La Repubblica reports on Monday; sources close to the
Libyans said no final decision has yet been taken, it says.
 
 GENERALI (GASI.MI)
 The insurer has set up a private equity venture targeting
central and eastern Europe with PPF, the financial group it has
an insurance joint venture with, the Financial Times said on
Monday.
 
 ENEL (ENEI.MI), EDISON (EDN.MI), SNAM (SRG.MI), HERA
(HRA.MI)
 Algeria will increase the capacity of its main gas export
pipeline to Italy by 7 billion cubic metres (bcm) a year and
speed up work on a new route, Algeria's energy minister said.
Partners in the project include Enel, Edison, Hera and Snam Rete

 SNAM RETE GAS (SRG.MI), E.ON EONG.DE
 The F2i fund, which has just bought an 80 percent stake in
Enel's gas grid, could be interested in the networks of
Germany's E.ON, its chief executive told Corriere della Sera
newspaper on Monday. Snam Rete Gas said last week it was
interested in the E.ON assets. [ID:nLR979532]
 * La Repubblica said on Monday that Ascopiave (ASCI.MI)
could be interested in E.ON's Italian gas grid.
 
 IRIDE (IRD.MI), ENIA (EN.MI), A2A (A2.MI)
 The era of big mergers between municipal utilities is over,
the chairman of Iride told Milano Finanza newspaper in an
interview published on Saturday, saying politics were a problem.

 * ASCOPIAVE (ASCI.MI), ACEGAS (AEG.MI), HERA (HRA.MI), A2A
(A2.MI)
 Ascopiave does not want to wait too long for its next merger
or acquisition, its chairman Gildo Santon told La Repubblica on
Monday; Santon said talks with Acegas were ongoing and did not
rule out looking at Hera or A2A for an alliance.
 
 BANKS
 Leading Italian banks granted an extension to 2012 on a debt
standstill agreement with Carlo Tassara, the financial holding
company of Romain Zaleski, which is selling investments to

 The deputy chairman of UniCredit (CRDI.MI) said the bank had
made mistakes over derivatives but in good faith, in an
interview with Il Sole 24 Ore published on Sunday. Fabrizio
Palenzona also ruled himself out of the chairman's job and said
he personally would not make any changes at Mediobanca

 TOD'S (TOD.MI), SAKS (SKS.N)
 Tod's Chief Executive Diego Della Valle reiterated that he
would meet management and key shareholders of U.S. department
store Saks such as Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim in the next
few months, in an interview with Il Sole 24 Ore published on
Saturday. Della Valle has nearly 6 percent of Saks.
 He added that businesses ought to look at Asia and China
where costs of getting a foothold were lower and the image of
"Made in Italy" goods was high.
 
 TELECOM ITALIA (TLIT.MI)
 Argentina's antitrust authority has asked Telecom Italia to
sort out lines of command at Telecom Argentina, which it
controls jointly with Grupo Werthein, and to back off from
merging the running of corporate and operating activities, Il
Sole 24 Ore reported on Saturday.
 
 BANCO POPOLARE (BAPO.MI)
 The bank's chief executive, Francesco Saviotti, reiterated
that he hoped to pay out a dividend again on 2009 results in an
interview with Il Messaggero newspaper on Saturday, and that it
could sell assets such as investment bank unit Efibanca to
strengthen its capital base. He added that there was interest
from "leading groups" for a future non-performing loans unit, to
be set up after it takes over the Italease unit.
 
 UBI BANCA (UBI.MI)
 The bank is in the spotlight of Il Sole 24 Ore's regular
"Letter to the Investor" column on Sunday. The newspaper says it
should turn in profit of around 350 million euros for 2009.
Chief Executive Victor Massiah says in the article that the
bank's industrial plan should be presented by year-end.
 
 * GEMINA (GEMI.MI)
 Rome airport operator Aeroporti di Roma (AdR), a unit of
Gemina, and Milan peer SEA are thinking again about the
possibility of merging, La Repubblica reported on Monday,
without citing sources.
 
 * SAVE (SAVE.MI)
 The Venice airport operator is setting up a company to
advise on M&A operations in the airport industry, its chairman
Enrico Marchi said in an interview with La Repubblica published
