(Corrects to show Covidien has reincorporated to Ireland, not Switzerland)

* Moves incorporation from Bermuda

* Shift makes company ineligible for S&P 500

BOSTON, July 1 (Reuters) - Diversified U.S. manufacturer Ingersoll-Rand Plc (IR.N) said on Wednesday it had reincorporated in Ireland, a move that will allow it to take advantage of that nation's European Union membership and tax treaties.

The move, approved last month by shareholders, will make the maker of climate control systems ineligible for inclusion in the Standard & Poor's 500 index .SPX.

Ingersoll is one of several large companies shifting their incorporation from the Atlantic islands of Bermuda to Ireland or Switzerland. Health care products company Covidien Plc (COV.N) earlier this year also reincorporated from Bermuda to Ireland. (Reporting by Scott Malone, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)
