SAN FRANCISCO, July 7 (Reuters) - Campbell Soup Co (CPB.N) said on Tuesday that its president and chief executive officer was injured in an car accident on July 2 while being driven home from the office, and he is now recovering from surgery.
Company spokesman Anthony Sanzio said Douglas Conant suffered broken ribs, although he declined to provide further details of the injuries.
Sanzio said "there were no injuries that affected his ability to make decisions," and Conant continues to lead the company while he recuperates.
The soup maker said it plans to hold its previously scheduled investor meeting on July 14 and 15.
Campbell said Conant was in the back seat of a car, heading home from the company's New Jersey headquarters, when the accident occurred. Conant's driver suffered cuts and bruises in the accident, Sanzio said.
The company said Conant is expected to be hospitalized for a brief period.
