NEW YORK, May 7 (Reuters) - Some U.S. stocks on the move on Thursday:
GENERAL MOTORS (GM.N)
The automaker reported a first-quarter loss and said it burned through $10.2 billion in the first quarter. For story see [ID:nN06340190].
Shares of the company, a Dow component, fell 3.6 percent to $1.60.
WAL-MART STORES INC (WMT.N)
The discount retailer, a Dow component, reported April same-store sales results that beat expectations. [ID:nN07455499]
Shares rose 1.5 percent to $50.26.
TARGET CORP (TGT.N)
Shares of the retailer advanced 2.2 percent to $42.40 after it reported April same-store sales growth of 0.3 percent. [ID:nWNAB5458]
DUPONT CO (DD.N)
The chemical maker said it would cut another 2,000 jobs as part of cost-cutting plans and take a second-quarter charge of $340 million to $390 million. [ID:nN07337677]
Shares of the Dow component dropped 3.9 percent to $27.63.
GAP INC (GPS.N)
The company reported a drop of 4 percent in April same-store sales. The analyst consensus was for a drop of 7.8 percent. [ID:nWNAB5372]
Shares surged 2.6 percent to $16.75.
BJ'S WHOLESALE (BJ.N)
Shares of the discount retailer rose 8 percent to $36.70 after it raised its first-quarter forecast. [ID:nN07358999]

Shares of the drug-development services company rose 5.2 percent to $10.11 after it reported first-quarter earnings that beat expectations. [ID:nBNG445375]
EXPEDITORS INTERNATIONAL OF WASHINGTON INC (EXPD.O)
Shares of the company fell 7 percent to $34.52 after it reported quarterly results that were lower than expected. [ID:nBNG363254]
SIMON PROPERTY GROUP INC (SPG.N)
Shares of the mall owner fell 5.2 percent to $51.98 after it raised the number of shares it will sell under its second stock offering in less than two months and priced them at $50 per share. [ID:nN07313638]
THOMSON REUTERS CORP
Shares of the business information company slid 5.8 percent to $29.75 after it reported first-quarter results and affirmed its outlook. [ID:nN07348462]
DIRECTV GROUP (DTV.O)

Shares fell 1.6 percent to $23.92.
CABLEVISION SYSTEMS CORP (CVC.N)
