NEW YORK, May 7 (Reuters) - Some U.S. stocks on the move on Thursday:
GENERAL MOTORS (GM.N)
The automaker reported a first-quarter loss and said it burned through $10.2 billion in the first quarter. For story see [ID:nN06340190].
Shares of the company, a Dow component, rose 1.8 percent to $1.69.
WAL-MART STORES INC (WMT.N)
The discount retailer, a Dow component, reported April same-store sales results that beta expectations. [ID:nN07455499]
Shares rose 2.8 percent to $50.89.
TARGET CORP (TGT.N)
Shares of the retailer advanced 4.6 percent to $43.35 after it reported April same-store sales growth of 0.3 percent. [ID:nWNAB5458]
DUPONT CO (DD.N)
The chemical maker said it would cut another 2,000 jobs as part of its cost-cutting plans and that it would take a second-quarter charge of $340 million to $390 million. [ID:nN07337677]
Shares of the Dow component dropped 0.5 percent to $28.62.
GAP INC (GPS.N)
The company reported a drop of 4 percent in its April same-store sales. The analyst consensus was for a drop of 7.8 percent. [ID:nWNAB5372]
Shares surged 6.9 percent to $17.43.
DIRECTV GROUP (DTV.O)
The company reported a decline in its first-quarter profit but added more subscribers than expected. [ID:nN06299952]
Shares fell 1.7 percent to $23.92.
CABLEVISION SYSTEMS CORP (CVC.N)
The company swung to a first-quarter profit, helped as it added more Internet and phone customers despite competition. [ID:nN06286398]
Shares advanced 11.5 percent to $20.44.
DOW CHEMICAL CO (DOW.N)
The company said its public offering of about 130 million shares priced at $15 a share, a discount of about 1 percent to the stock's Wednesday closing price. [ID:nN07341495]
Its shares were up 0.2 percent at $15.22.
COSTCO WHOLESALE CORP (COST.O)

The stock rose 0.9 percent to $47.29.

Shares fell 4.1 percent to $20.73.
SARA LEE CORP (SLE.N)
The food company reported third-quarter results that beat expectations. [ID:nN07337436]
Shares rose 2.3 percent to $9.17.
WARNER MUSIC GROUP (WMG.N)

Shares fell 2.9 percent to $5.29.

PEPSI BOTTLING GROUP INC (PBG.N)
PepsiAmericas on Thursday rejected an unsolicited takeover bid from PepsiCo, saying it "significantly undervalues the strategic benefits of system consolidation."
The move came shortly after fellow Pepsi Bottling Group also rejected a buyout offer from PepsiCo. [ID:nN07329197]
Shares of PepsiAmericas fell 0.2 percent to $25.14 while PepsiCo slid 0.4 percent to $49.53 and Pepsi Bottling was up 1.5 percent at $32.54.
SIRIUS XM RADIO INC (SIRI.O)

Shares fell 8.6 percent to 48 cents.
ELIZABETH ARDEN INC (RDEN.O)
The cosmetics and perfume company reported an adjusted third-quarter loss and said it was seeing "modest improvement" in retail sales performance. [ID:nBNG467055]
Shares fell 2.5 percent to $8.37.
LIMITED BRANDS INC (LTD.N)
The retailer reported a decline of 6 percent in its April same-store sales. The analyst consensus was for a drop of 5.9 percent.
Shares fell 5.4 percent to $12.49.
ATLAS ENERGY RESOURCES LLC (ATN.N)
The company reported first-quarter earnings of 52 cents a share and revenue growth of 2 percent. The analyst consensus was for earnings of 45 cents a share. [ID:nWNAB5167]
Shares rose 4.8 percent to $20.69.
CISCO SYSTEMS INC (CSCO.O)
The company late Wednesday reported third-quarter results that beat expectations, and said its customers were seeing more stability. [ID:nN06332767]

NEWS CORP (NWS.O)
The media company late Wednesday reported a drop in its quarterly operating income, but said the worst effects of the recession were behind it. [ID:nN06286474]
Shares rose 7.6 percent to $11.46.
PRUDENTIAL FINANCIAL INC (PRU.N)

Shares rose 13.5 percent to $40.38.
VICAL INC (VICL.O)
The company entered a cooperative research and development agreement with the U.S. Navy for the development of a vaccine against the H1N1 strain of influenza virus. [ID:nBNG448760]

TBS INTERNATIONAL LTD (TBSI.O)

BLACKBOARD INC (BBBB.O)

VANDA PHARMACEUTICALS INC (VNDA.O)
