NEW YORK, July 10 (Reuters) - Some U.S. stocks to watch on Thursday:
LEHMAN BROTHERS HOLDINGS INC LEH.N
The cost to insure Lehman Brothers's debt with credit default swaps jumped on Thursday as its stock price plunged. [ID:nL10354021]
A spokesman for Pimco said on Thursday that Pimco continues to trade with the investment bank. The comment came after market rumors that the bond fund was scaling back business with Lehman. For more see[ID:nWEN6616]
Shares of Lehman fell 11.25 percent to $17.48 on the NYSE.
FANNIE MAE (FNM.N)
FREDDIE MAC (FRE.N)
Mortgage lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are "insolvent" and may need a U.S. government bailout, former St. Louis Federal Reserve President William Poole was quoted as saying in an interview with Bloomberg. [ID:nBNG63700]
Shares of Fannie Mae fell 8.9 percent to $13.99 on the NYSE. Shares of Freddie Mac fell 19.4 percent to $8.29 on the NYSE.
WACHOVIA CORP WB.N
The fourth-largest U.S. bank named senior Treasury Department official Robert Steel chief executive and said mortgage and legal problems would result in a $2.6 billion to $2.8 billion second-quarter loss, much larger than many analysts expected. [ID:nN09436713]
Shares of Wachovia dropped 8.8 percent to $13.04 on the NYSE.
DOLLAR THRIFTY AUTOMOTIVE GROUP (DTG.N)
The vehicle rental group says amends senior credit facilities. [ID:nWNAB0345]
Shares of Dollar Thrifty fell 6.7 percent to $3.32 on the NYSE.
BANK OF AMERICA CORP (BAC.N)
Bank of America's chief executive told CNBC on Wednesday he sees no need for the bank to cut its dividend or raise capital. [ID:nN09414688].
Shares of Bank of America rose 3 percent to $22.72 on the NYSE.
ROHM & HAAS CO ROH.N
DOW CHEMICAL CO (DOW.N)
Rohm and Haas shares rose 65 percent on Thursday to $73.97 after Dow Chemical announced it would buy the specialty chemicals and electronics maker for $18.8 billion.
Shares of Dow Chemical dropped 4.1 percent to $32.59. [ID:nN10461510].
OPNEXT INC (OPXT.O)
The company, which makes fiber optic network components, said it agreed to buy privately held StrataLight Communications Inc in a cash and stock deal valued at $172 million. [ID:nBNG150328]
Shares of Eatontown, New Jersey-based Opnext fell 3.2 percent to $5.10 on Nasdaq.
