0725 ET 10March2009-Geithner says U.S. moving fast to stabilize economy
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner late Monday said that the U.S. was
moving fast to stabilize its economy, as the recession continues to pressure
commodities, financial stocks, and consumer spending.
"We're doing more in weeks than other counties do in years," he told
Reuters, adding, "We're going to move with as much urgency as possible."
Though Geithner didn't provide any new details to his plan to remove bad
assets from bank balance sheets, he maintained that Democratic lawmakers were
supportive of the Obama administration's actions to restart the flow of
credit.
