NEW YORK, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Coca-Cola Co (KO.N) said on Thursday it is expanding its business in Brazil over the next five years, in time for when South America's largest nation hosts the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.
The world's biggest soft drink maker said its investments in Brazil will grow more than 75 percent over the next five years, from 2010 to 2014, for a total of $5.8 billion.
"Brazil is one of the Coca-Cola Company's top markets worldwide," said Chief Executive Muhtar Kent in a statement.
Coke said Kent was in Brazil to open a "green" plant in Southern Brazil that makes a range of products including a traditional tea known as matte. The plant will have the capacity to produce nearly 11,000 tons of various dried teas per year.
In addition, Coke said it is launching a new product called Matte Granel Organico, or "Organic Bulk Matte" tea, its first organic product in Latin America.
Coke invested $3.3 billion in Brazil from 2005 to 2009.
Shares of Coke were down 2 cents at $56.11 in late morning trade on the New York Stock Exchange. (Reporting by Martinne Geller; Editing by Tim Dobbyn)
