HEADLINE STOCKS-Some U.S. stocks to watch on July 13

NEW YORK, July 13 (Reuters) - Some U.S. stocks to watch on Monday:

GOLDMAN SACHS GROUP INC (GS.N)

Meredith Whitney Advisory upgraded the stock to "buy" from "neutral," saying the company would be a key competitor in the government, corporate and municipal debt markets. [ID:nBNG121776]

Shares rose 3.1 percent to $146.24 in premarket trading.

CIT GROUP INC CIT.N

The commercial lender on Sunday said it remains in discussions with regulators on measures to improve its near-term liquidity position. [ID:nBNG44695]

Shares sank 15 percent to $1.30 in premarket trading.

BANK OF AMERICA CORP (BAC.N)

The bank is trying to avoid paying billions of dollars in fees to U.S. taxpayers for guarantees against losses at Merrill Lynch, saying the rescue agreement was never signed and the funding never used, according to a Bloomberg report. [ID:nBNG352568]

Shares of the Dow component rose 4.9 percent to $12.46 in premarket trading.

ROCKWELL AUTOMATION INC (ROK.N)

JPMorgan upgraded the company to "overweight," saying it viewed the diversified U.S. manufacturer's software business as the kicker to an attractive long-term growth story. [ID:nBNG497861]

Shares closed Friday at $31.14.

MICROSOFT CORP (MSFT.O)

A majority of companies in a survey, six out of every 10, plan to skip the purchase of the Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system, with many wanting to save money or citing concerns about compatibility with existing applications. [ID:nN12539678]

In addition the Wall Street Journal reported that the company was pitching a deal to sell its Razorfish digital ad agency to five of the world's biggest ad companies. [ID:nN1296292]  Continued...
