LOS ANGELES, July 14 (Reuters) - Las Vegas Sands Corp (LVS.N) has promoted long-time executive Robert Goldstein to the post of executive vice president and has extended his contract for two and a half years, the casino operator said on Tuesday.

Goldstein joined Sands in 1995 along with former company executives William Weidner and Bradley Stone. Weidner and Stone resigned from Sands earlier this year amid disagreements over how the company was dealing with a combination of dwindling receipts and mounting debt obligations.

Sands, which operates the Palazzo and Venetian resorts on the Las Vegas Strip, two casinos in the Chinese gambling enclave of Macau and one in Pennsylvania, is slated to open another gambling resort in Singapore early next year. Several other projects have been put on hold as the company seeks to avoid violating debt covenants.

"We have instituted aggressive efforts in Las Vegas that have helped us right-size our business ... any increase in consumer spending combined with our operating efficiencies will certainly lead to higher profitability from our operations here," Goldstein said in a statement.
