U.S. mortgage applications fell for a second straight week, led by a decline in demand for home refinancing loans as interest rates climbed, according to data from the Mortgage Bankers Association.

The MBA said on Wednesday its seasonally adjusted index of mortgage applications USMGM=ECI, which includes both purchase and refinance loans, for the week to Oct. 16 decreased 13.7 percent to 641.0, its lowest since the week ended Sept. 11.

U.S. stock index futures were down on Wednesday, pressured after Dow component Boeing Co (BA.N) reported a quarterly loss and by increasing concerns the market was headed for a pullback.

Dow Jones industrial average futures DJc1 fell 40 points while S&P 500 futures SPc1 slid 4.7 points and Nasdaq 100 futures NDc1 lost 5.5 points.

Shares of Morgan Stanley (MS.N) rose in premarket trading on Wednesday after the company reported third-quarter earnings that beat expectations.

It was the financial services company's first quarter of profits after three straight losing quarters.
