* Current CFO Rick McKenney to join Unum Group
TORONTO, June 22 (Reuters) - Sun Life Financial Inc (SLF.TO), Canada's No. 3 insurer, said on Monday that it had appointed Colm Freyne as interim chief financial officer, effective July 1.
Freyne, who is currently Sun Life's senior vice president and controller, takes on the position following the resignation of Rick McKenney.
Unum Group (UNM.N), an employee benefits products provider based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, said it had named McKenney executive vice president and CFO.
"Colm is highly qualified to lead our exceptional enterprise-wide team of finance professionals, given his three decades of international financial services experience," Sun Life Chief Executive Donald Stewart said in a statement.
"He has been with Sun Life since 2003, having joined us from a major Canadian chartered bank."
Sun Life said its board and executive team would work with Freyne over the balance of the year to determine the finance structure to best serve the company for the longer term.
Manulife Financial Corp (MFC.TO), Canada's largest insurer, last week named Michael Bell its chief financial officer, following the retirement of Peter Rubenovitch. (Reporting by John McCrank; Editing by Lisa Von Ahn)
