NEW YORK, June 23 (Reuters) - Reddy Ice Holdings Inc (FRZ.N), the largest U.S. manufacturer of packaged ice, said on Monday its board appointed Gilbert Cassagne as chief executive, after several turbulent months for the business.

Cassagne, a former CEO of Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, replaced William Brick, who is taking on the role of executive chairman, according to the company. Brick had occupied the chairman role until returning as CEO on an interim basis in December 2007.

The new CEO's appointment comes at a difficult period for the management team.

Last month the company lowered its 2008 outlook following lower-than-expected results in the first quarter due to higher energy-related expenses.

In March the Dallas-based company said it had received grand jury subpoenas as well as a civil investigative demand from regulators looking into antitrust actions and price-fixing in the packaged ice industry.

A $1.1 billion deal to buy Reddy Ice by hedge fund GSO Capital Partners fell through in February. Reddy Ice received $21 million cash settlement to cancel the deal.
