NEW YORK, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Some U.S. stocks on the move on Thursday:

CITIGROUP INC (C.N), $4.61, up 2 pct

The bank plans to cut down its U.S. branch network to six big metropolitan areas, according to a late Wednesday report in the Wall Street Journal, which cited people familiar with the situation. [ID:nN23423147]

ELECTRONIC ARTS INC (ERTS.O), $19.26, down 2.9 pct

A Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) executive said the software company had no plans to buy Electronic Arts, shooting down unsubstantiated talk of a potential bid that triggered a spike in the video game publisher's shares. [ID:nT61813]

VISA INC (V.N), $73.15, down 1 pct

MASTERCARD INC (MA.N), $218.55, down 0.4 pct

The GVH, Hungary's competition authority, ruled that the two companies formed an illegal bank card intercharge-fee cartel. [ID:nLO97514]

RITE AID CORP (RAD.N), $1.73, down 11 pct

The company posted a narrower quarterly loss as cost cuts helped offset a decline in sales, but trends remain negative, leading it to forecast a deeper loss for the year. [ID:nN24396230]

NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR CORP (NSM.N), $15.18, up 1.8 pct

Citigroup upgraded the company to "buy" from "hold," expecting the National Semi to expand its gross margins in 2010. [ID:nBNG200251]

SCHOLASTIC CORP (SCHL.O), $25.33, up 3.3 pct
