NEW YORK, June 25 (Reuters) - AES Corp's (AES.N) 480-megawatt Unit 7 at the Redondo Beach natural gas-fired power station in California returned to service by Thursday afternoon, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.

The unit shut by June 24 for unplanned reasons.

The 1,310 MW station is located in Redondo in Los Angeles County about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. There are four units at Redondo, two 175 MW Units 5 (which entered service in 1954) and 6 (1957), and two 480 MW Units 7 (1967) and 8 (1967).

The other units were available for service.

One MW powers about 700 homes in California.

AES, of Arlington, Virginia, owns and operates power plants with more than 43,000 MW of generation in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean, markets energy commodities, and transmits and distributes power around the world. (Reporting by Scott DiSavino; Editing by Gary Hill)
