Thirty companies have been shortlisted for restructuring under a creditors' review of 434 large firms, a move designed to put them under workout plans or expedite the folding of nonviable companies, according to financial industry sources. The list will be finalised by Friday.
A former civic group leader who was a leading figure in the unification movement was found dead in his house in an apparent suicide. The 89-year-old pastor left a note that called President Lee Myung-bak a "killer", police said.
Professors across the country, led by some 200 from Seoul National University, are continuing to issue statements expressing concerns about the perceived retreat of democracy under the current government.
The Constitutional Court ruled seeking punitive measures against those who spread pornography on the internet or through mobile phones constitutional, rejecting the claim that a law banning such acts was ambiguous and infringed individual rights.
